Cherokee County Jail Mugshot Status
No official Cherokee County jail mugshot gallery, recent-bookings page, daily booking-photo report, or roster profile with booking photos was located on the county site. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office page instead links to VINELink for offender custody status and gives open-records request channels. That means a public Cherokee County jail mugshots search should not be described as a browsable online photo gallery.
VINELink can help answer whether a person is in custody or support custody-status notification. It is not documented in the research as a mugshot gallery for Cherokee County. If a booking photograph is needed, the official fallback is a public-information request to the sheriff records department at records@cocherokee.org or fax 903-683-2813 ATTN: Records. The jail phone, 903-683-6365, can help confirm whether the person is in the local jail before a request is sent.
Important: Cherokee County does not appear to publish county-hosted mugshot roster pages in the inspected official material.
Request Cherokee County Booking Photos
A records request should be specific enough for the sheriff's records department to identify the booking event. Avoid vague requests such as asking for every mugshot from a week or every person with a common name. Ask for the booking photograph and booking record tied to a named person, known arrest date, and known agency if available.
- Check custody status through the sheriff-published VINELink custody search or the current VINELink state selection page.
- If custody is unclear, call Cherokee County Jail at 903-683-6365 or the Sheriff's Office at 903-683-2271.
- Email records@cocherokee.org or fax 903-683-2813 ATTN: Records.
- Include full name, date of birth if known, arrest or booking date, arresting agency, and the words "booking photograph/mugshot and booking record."
- Expect possible redaction or withholding when an exception applies.
The same request path can be used for older release records when a person no longer appears in a custody-status system. For current custody and booking status, the Cherokee County inmate records page explains the broader lookup chain.
Texas Mugshot Public Records
Texas Government Code Chapter 552, the Texas Public Information Act, is the main public-records law for sheriff records. It makes government information available unless a law permits or requires withholding. Texas does not have one simple statewide rule found in the research that requires every jail mugshot to be posted online. A booking photograph can be a government record, but public release can still be affected by law-enforcement exceptions, privacy and confidentiality rules, juvenile law, sealed records, expunction, and active-investigation issues.
The practical result is a request-and-review process. The sheriff records department can receive the request, identify the booking event, and decide what can be released. A denial or redaction should be read in light of the cited exception or court order. It should not be treated as proof that no arrest occurred or that no booking photo was ever taken during intake.
Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55 governs expunction, which is the key route for eligible arrest records to be removed from public access. Government Code Chapter 411 governs criminal-history information, which matters when a booking photo is confused with an official criminal-history report.
Note: A mugshot shows a booking event. It does not prove guilt, conviction, or the final court charge.
Cherokee County Mugshot Record Fields
Because no official county roster profile was found, the field inventory below describes what to request or verify. Do not assume each field will be released. Texas exceptions, record status, juvenile protections, and court orders can change what the sheriff may provide.
| Field | What It Shows | Cherokee County status |
|---|---|---|
| Booking photo | Photograph taken during jail intake | No county gallery found. Request from sheriff records. |
| Name | Person associated with the booking | Needed for VINELink and records requests. |
| Booking date | When the person entered jail custody | Request if not confirmed by phone. |
| Arresting agency | Agency that made or lodged the arrest | Include in request if known. |
| Booking charge | Initial arrest or intake allegation | May differ from filed court charge. |
| Release or transfer status | Whether person remains in jail custody | Check VINELink, jail phone, or records request. |
The official sheriff page is the source for the records email, records fax, jail phone, and VINELink link used for booking-photo requests.
The same county page supports the request path and confirms that a county mugshot gallery should not be promised.
Cherokee County Mugshot Limits
Some records are withheld or redacted for reasons that have nothing to do with whether the arrest happened. Juvenile records, protected victim information, medical or mental-health details, active investigations, sealed records, expunged records, and security-sensitive jail details may be limited. Housing-unit details can also be withheld if release creates a jail security risk. A request should ask for the record but should not demand private or protected details that the sheriff cannot release.
| Public item | What was found | Practical result |
|---|---|---|
| County roster photo | Not located | Use records request. |
| VINELink photo | Not documented in research | Use for custody status, not mugshots. |
| TDCJ state-prison records | Separate TDCJ locator | Use TDCJ for Hodge or Skyview prisoners. |
| Federal mugshots | No general public gallery | Use BOP locator or federal court records as appropriate. |
| ICE photos | ODLS is not a mugshot gallery | Use ODLS for detainee location only. |
Cherokee County Mugshots and Court Records
A booking photo belongs to the jail intake side of the case. The court side begins when the prosecutor files charges and the clerk opens or maintains the case record. For filed charges after arrest, use the District Clerk, County Court or County Clerk route, District Attorney, or County Attorney depending on case level. The court record can show filed charges, amendments, bond orders, settings, dispositions, and expunction-related filings, while the mugshot only documents jail intake.
The District Clerk page lists Alison Dotson, phone 903-683-6908, email dcoffice@cocherokee.org, and office hours 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday excluding holidays. The District Attorney page lists phone 903-683-2573 and victim coordinator Regina Brooks at 903-683-2718. The County Attorney page lists Dana Young and phone 903-683-2423 for county-level prosecution context. The Cherokee County court records after jail arrest page explains those routes in more detail.
Cherokee County Prison Photo Differences
Hodge and Skyview are state prisons in Rusk, but they are not Cherokee County Jail. Search current state prisoners through the TDCJ Inmate Information Search. TDCJ records use state prison identifiers and unit assignments rather than county booking numbers. TDCJ also warns that its online information is updated on working days only and is at least 24 hours old.
Federal and immigration systems are different again. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal sentenced custody and many released federal prisoners, but it is not a county booking report or public mugshot gallery. ICE ODLS locates immigration detainees by A-Number/country of birth or biographical information. It is not a Cherokee County mugshot search.
No official Cherokee County Sheriff mobile app with inmate-search, warrant-search, or mugshot features was located in the research. Avoid commercial mugshot publishing and pay-to-remove sites. Use the sheriff records department, court clerk, TDCJ, BOP, or ICE as the custody type requires.
For dismissed or eligible arrests, removal from public access is a legal process, not a website request alone. Chapter 55 expunction can address eligible records, and court orders may affect what the sheriff or clerk can release later. A private site removing a copy does not change the official sheriff, clerk, or state record.
